If you know me and know me well, then you know that I do at least 1 LiveStream on YouTube a week, to cheer people up and make people laugh whether it’s at what I say or my singing.
Most people genuinely enjoy my singing of songs such as Elvis Presley, Ronan Keating etc, sometimes I don’t do too well in the songs because of my voice but the majority of my loyal supporters stay and watch and still manage to somehow enjoy the songs I sing.
I’ve been doing my singing on YouTube for as long as I can remember and because I sing all of the songs, I expect no issues because of course I’m not miming, and I’m not changing lyrics or taking the piss out of the songs.
So imagine my surprise when I found out that there had been copyright claims put in against 17 songs I’ve sang, let me make it clear, I did not mime, take the piss or just play the originals of the songs… I bloody sang the songs, now if you go to a pub or Karaoke bar and sing and someone films it and puts it on YouTube, you don’t expect to get a copyright claim.
I’ve done exactly the same but without going to a Karaoke bar, so why the hell should there be copyright claims over me for 17 songs that I sang myself?
My guess is YouTube are going content moderation mad on content that do not involve the singer, or anything of the sort.
I’m going to assume that copyright is no longer sustainable as copyright.
Its ridiculous to think that I can have claims against me over me singing the songs myself!
