Having had to go to my nearest A&E tonight because of my diabetes and other issues, I’ve seen just tonight (A Friday night at that) which showed shockingly a very quiet Accident and Emergency waiting room, I have been in A&E on a weekend before with it jam packed because of course, it is the weekend, so I was speechless when I saw the waiting room.
My treatment tonight wasn’t bad but for how I was presenting, I should have been kept in and monitored over night, I’m not a well man, they did give me pain relief, an insulin injection and put me on a drip, the doctor was really nice and so was the nurses, but I was presenting with many symptoms and I knew I should have been kept in at least for the night.
The fact is, the NHS is stretched, even with a quiet waiting room, they are overworked in one thing or another.
I also found out I have got COVID which they no longer give antibiotics out for, nor do they keep you in hospital for it, its ridiculous in my opinion as it can still kill people but that’s the attitude to it now.
I can’t say my treatment was bad… But I can’t say it was good either and I hate saying that because in December 2024 the NHS saved my life, no doubt about that at all.
Years back, if I’d had gone and was presenting tonight, I’d have been kept in, no question about it, now its about freeing up beds and getting rid of anyone they can to free a bed up for the next patient.
From what I can see, they simply do whatever they can but there’s no real monitoring of the patient, no real bothering with the patient or even asking how they are feeling at the point.
I believe the doctors truly do care, but I also think their hands are tied because they want to do more but they can’t, because of the demand on beds and on freeing up beds and making sure every patient is seen within the certain time period.
I don’t envy the staff, but I wish they would reform the NHS and bring it more upto date.
Its not bad treatment, they’re simply overrun, overworked, understaffed and most are doing more overtime than they should as they shouldn’t be doing too much.
